Me+You Luminary Quilt

Right before Jamie Swanson was about to launch her Luminary Quilt, she reached out to me to see if I would be interested in making the pattern, which I absolutely jumped at! Not only is the pattern like crazy amazing, but I knew exactly what fabric I wanted to use for it: Me+You Indah Batiks. Thank goodness Fabric Bubb had exactly what I needed!

The pattern involved a bunch of slicing and dicing of the fabric and I finally got to take a crack at improv quilting. I had to make three different sets of diamonds, which OMG were so cool!!!!

Like seriously I want to put these three pictures in side-by-side frames, but oh my when I put them all together into a star it was magic!!!!

I definitely wanted a solid for the background and, since I wanted the same texture throughout, I went with the Flint Colored Indah Solid from Me+You. Such a smart choice I think.

Once the whole quilt was pieced together, the seams of the quilt naturally guided my machine into continuing the diamond pattern throughout.

After this, I was honestly at a standstill. I knew I wanted more, but I’m new to the quilty world and techniques so I was stumped. Thank goodness I have a quilty Yoda named Nydia Kehnle who was all like why don’t you echo quilt some of the diamonds? After googling the definition of “echo quilting,” I, like Luke Skywalker, felt the force within me and went to town with 10 different colors of Aurifil thread. And voila…… The Me+You Luminary Quilt: Mister Domestic Style was born!

And with this, I’m hooked on making quilts! Expect to see more in the future!!
